Praia Verde is a small, leafy settlement of villas and low apartment blocks in the pine forest between Monte Gordo and Altura — one of the few stretches of the Algarve coast where the dunes and the woods are still intact. The beach is long, wide and family-friendly, with a couple of good restaurants on the sand and boardwalks through the dunes. Monte Gordo, with its promenade, casino and daily services, is five minutes away; Altura and Manta Rota the same in the other direction.

Golf is close: Monte Rei’s Jack Nicklaus course and Castro Marim Golfe are both fifteen minutes away, Quinta do Vale ten. Spain is ten minutes by the Guadiana bridge — Ayamonte’s shops and restaurants, Isla Canela’s beaches, Seville in under an hour and a half. Tavira, the prettiest town in the East, is twenty minutes; Faro airport forty by the A22.
