Carvoeiro grew from a fishing village into one of the Algarve’s best-loved small resorts without losing its scale: a beach in the main square, whitewashed houses climbing the hills, restaurants and cafés along the front. The cliff-top boardwalk to Algar Seco is one of the region’s finest walks, and the coves — Carvalho, Benagil, Marinha — are the ones on the postcards.

The western Algarve is greener and slightly more relaxed than the Golden Triangle, with a large international community that lives here all year.
