AIMA Golden Visa residence program

Eligible Investment Options


All third-country nationals who carry out an investment activity, either personally or through a company incorporated in Portugal or another EU Member State with a permanent establishment in Portugal, and who meet one of the quantitative requirements and the time requirement established by the applicable legislation, may apply for a Residence Permit for Investment Activity (ARI) under one of the following options:

  1. Creation of at least 10 jobs – subparagraph ii;

  2. Capital transfer of €500,000 or more, to be invested in research activities carried out by public or private scientific research institutions that are part of the Portuguese national scientific and technological system – subparagraph v;

  3. Capital transfer of €250,000 or more, to be invested in or support artistic production, or the restoration or maintenance of Portugal’s national cultural heritage, through central and regional government services, public institutes, entities within the public business sector, public foundations, private foundations with public utility status, intermunicipal entities, local business sector entities, municipal associations, and public cultural associations pursuing activities related to artistic production or the restoration and maintenance of national cultural heritage – subparagraph vi;

  4. Capital transfer of €500,000 or more for the acquisition of units in non-real-estate collective investment undertakings established under Portuguese law, with a maturity of at least five years at the time of investment, and where at least 60% of the investment value is allocated to commercial companies headquartered in Portugal – subparagraph vii;

  5. Capital transfer of €500,000 or more for the incorporation of a commercial company with its registered office in Portugal, combined with the creation of five permanent jobs, or for increasing the share capital of an existing Portuguese company, together with the creation of at least five permanent jobs or the maintenance of at least ten jobs, of which a minimum of five must be permanent, for a period of at least three years – subparagraph viii;

  6. Family Reunification: An application for Family Reunification may be submitted simultaneously with the ARI application of the family member/investor, but it will always be conditional upon the approval of the investor’s ARI application.

Eligible Family Members


The following family members may qualify for family reunification:

  • Spouse;

  • Children up to 17 years of age, or dependent incapacitated children of either spouse;

  • Children up to 17 years of age adopted by the applicant, where the applicant is unmarried, or by the applicant and/or spouse, pursuant to a decision of the competent authority in the country of origin, provided that the law of that country grants adopted children the same rights and obligations as biological children and that the adoption decision is recognised by Portugal;

  • Children over 18 and up to 25 years of age, dependent on the couple or one of the spouses, who are unmarried and studying at an educational institution in Portugal;

  • Children over 18 and up to 25 years of age, dependent on the couple or one of the spouses, who are unmarried and pursuing studies;

  • Parents in the direct ascending line and first degree of the person residing in Portugal or of their spouse, provided they are financially dependent on them;

  • Siblings up to 17 years of age, provided they are under the legal guardianship of the person residing in Portugal, in accordance with a decision issued by the competent authority of the country of origin and recognised by Portugal.

Note


The ARI (Golden Visa) regime does not apply to individuals holding Portuguese nationality or to nationals of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), Andorra, or Switzerland.
